Buying links under the radar so Matt can't find them.

What an exciting week it's been with all the talk about "buying links" — Matt giving the Google PR advice, Jeremy from Yahoo saying "I'll sell links," and everyone else chatting about it. My two cents: buy 'em under the radar, where Matt can't find them via association.
Find "virgin sites" (non-SEO'd sites) and put your one link there, blended right in so even prying eyes wouldn't know an SEO placed it. Of course, getting a link for free because your content is wonderful is always best, but in the real world, sometimes you have to get the ball rolling by contacting sites in your industry, whether for free, for pizza, or for cold hard cash.
The world's best SEO sites of today and tomorrow are ones where, if Matt looked at them, he'd have no idea an SEO was ever involved. My New Year's resolution is to get better at moving under the radar with link buys — grab a link from a virgin site and move on. Bottom line: as an SEO, you've got to distance yourself from other fellow SEOs in your link building.

Greg: Hopefully, as an advertiser, we have ended our involvement in the debate.
Jim: Hey Greg, mind if I put a condom on your link to your blog there? Just kidding. Seriously though, I don't think condoms are mine or your responsibility — if I slip you some juice, that's between you and me.
Jason Hendricks: Jim, keep the pizza exchange theory "under the radar."
randfish: Beautiful Jim, just beautiful.
Alex Piner: Wasn't Matt in the NSA or a contractor with them?
