Back at Shenandoah

We called, and called, and called the Everglades until we finally got an answer - no, at least not for waitstaff. Most waitstaff returns, and if any openings do come available they are offered to people already employed at that company (Amfac). So immediately after we got our "no" answer we called Shenandoah N.P. and got our "yes" answer for wait staff and the for the date we wanted to start work (October 1, 1997).

So here we are at Shenandoah N.P. in Virginia. We both work as waitstaff, the money is very good, and the work is very hard. In thirteen days we will be going to New York (arriving the night before Thanksgiving). We will be spending two weeks in New York, then we plan to travel to Florida to look for a job. We've heard that country clubs provide pleasant jobs and atmospheres. We also plan to visit Disney World and applying for jobs there, then Everglades N.P. then Key West. From there we will make a decision on where to work until we leave to go to Alaska.

Here at Shenandoah this time we have driven a lot of scenic miles looking at RV's, travel trailers, vans, and other vehicles for a prospective new vehicle or combination of vehicles, for a driving vehicle, a traveling home, or both. We have also gone to Washington D.C. again this year for a tour. We did a lot of walking and toured some of the Smithsonian (the Museum of Natural History, and the Museum of American History).

We've also gone to The Walton's Museum in Schuyler VA. (From the T.V. show "The Walton's") and visited Monticello (the home of Thomas Jefferson).

We saw a black bear last week on Mary's birthday. We've seen more deer than I can fathom. Mary and I have even had deer licking our hands! Every night outside our window it sounds like "Wild Kingdom" with the sounds of wild animals right outside our wall: deer, bears, raccoons, squirrels, skunks, opossums, etc.
