Part Two: Tips for finding the best pages to get links from.

This is a continuation of my last post on pages to seek advertising on, using the Yahoo "site:" command to find a prospective site's most trusted, powerful pages. Yesterday I checked a prospective advertising site this way and found their Glossary page at #2 — checking its exact backlinks, it had 740 backlinks including 44 .edu's.
Let's talk Reputation and Trust. Page Reputation is the words used to link to a page, mixed with the words used to link to the pages that link to them. Page Trust is the backlinks to a page and where those votes originate, plus the trust value of the pages that link to them.
If you get an ad on a page with only internal backlinks, its reputation and trust are both low since no one outside votes for it. But if you get an ad on a page with outside backlinks, like that Glossary with 44 .edu's directly voting for it, the trust and reputation are through the roof, giving your ad a straight line to your target.
Side note: here's another reason "links pages" are dead — they don't have any backlinks to them from external sites. I'd rather get one backlink from a real page with direct external backlinks than 50 backlinks from pages with no outside votes.

This is totally on point. Still posting on this topic this weekend, but you significantly cut down my work. The Reputation and Trust part gets a little confusing (I would’ve used site A, B, C to clarify) but your art puts everything into perpective.

I think what Jim is saying is what I’ve been following for a while now. I try to find the right sites and the right pages within the site to get a link from.

Just found this article from http://wiep.net/link-value-factors/. very informative thanks for that.
I worked for a telco in Sydney that pays an “SEO consultant” who recommended a reciprocal link exchange via his “link exchange network”.
He has snuck a link to the links page from the main page (PR4) and every other page on the site, so the links page is now the second highest PR page on the site. Seems to me this is a link juice leak for the entire site, and only benefits the SEO’s “link network”?
Is this a common SEO tactic or just a shady/dodgey SEO?

JaeWeb,
That could possibly juice things up. However from what I understand, its just Page Rank coming in from the one site only. There are still no other votes / links coming in to that link page, so my guess is its not a ninja link.
Feel free to correct me.
