Buying Websites for SEO - Who me?

-

I was just asked if I’d speak on "Buying Sites for SEO" at SMX Advanced in Seattle (June 3-4)… wasn’t planning on attending any SEO conferences in 2008….but man…that’s a prett interesting topic! ….. but I’m not sure if, like link building, I’d feel comfortable talking about the finer points of this….. I wrote about it once long ago (Nov 05)….and we’ve come a long, long ways since then….but it’s a topic I’ve been avoiding ever since then….I love the topic…but I still don’t think I want to say much on it in public….

What do you think?

yes, absolutely! This will be my first seo conference ive attended and this is the kinda topic that goes beyond the norm and is perfect for an advance seo conference… I would feel like I’m really getting my moneys worth. Plus I just started trying to buy sites for seo and I’m failing miserably, I don’t know where to look and how to bargain.

Tony, why don’t we grab a beer sometime and chat about how we can help each other….I’m not sure how speaking in public on this would benefit me in any way…ya know?

  3. tony Says:

yeah I see your point.. If it will hurt your business you may want to keep that to yourself..Yeah I’m good for a beer

I would agree with Jim. Like most web related things, I love talking about things and hearing others talk about things but there is a price for it. Whenever I hear something too good, it’s not good for long when it’s spoken about in front of hundreds of people (and certain company engineers)

It’s bittersweet because one may love to hear certain people speak about certain things, but that speaker is better off going off the radar for themselves and any clients that person may have.

Jim, what negative impacts could speaking on the subject have on your business?

I can guess… I’m a link builder and I would not talk about my link building strategies in public for the fear that I’d effect my business… If people want to learn, they can learn the hard way like I have done via testing, testing and testing different ideas and routes.

You seem like a nice guy and want to help others, but surely a man has to put their family/staff first? :)

agree with you there Jim.. at least give us domainers (and site buyers) a few more years to vacuum up sites before opening the floodgates..

you got room for one more for beer? I’d be happy to dole out what I’ve learned on my side..

I’ve got a similar choice to make in the next month at a conference in Russia. By giving too much away I’ll be directly helping the competition and be making my clients and my own life harder. If I make it too vague people won’t be satisfied. If you have enough clients then I’d avoid.

Peter, for sure. Maybe sometime we should have a “ninjas of the roundtable meeting” and chat about these things….hum…maybe SEO Class in Edinburgh Scotland in June….and we can only talk about this in a castle…and what is talked about in the castle, stays in the castle…hehe

Jim, dont do it. I never agreed with the link building sessions at SES either. I absolutely believe that it will hurt your business long term when Google tries to block it and make your job a lot harder to do.
