Buying links under the radar so Matt can't find them.
Posted Tuesday, December 13th, 2005. Filed under Internet Marketing Tips, Link Building.
What an exciting week it's been with all the talk about "buying links" — Matt giving the Google PR advice, Jeremy from Yahoo saying "I'll sell links," and everyone else chatting about it. My two cents: buy 'em under the radar, where Matt can't find them via association.
Find "virgin sites" (non-SEO'd sites) and put your one link there, blended right in so even prying eyes wouldn't know an SEO placed it. Of course, getting a link for free because your content is wonderful is always best, but in the real world, sometimes you have to get the ball rolling by contacting sites in your industry, whether for free, for pizza, or for cold hard cash.
The world's best SEO sites of today and tomorrow are ones where, if Matt looked at them, he'd have no idea an SEO was ever involved. My New Year's resolution is to get better at moving under the radar with link buys — grab a link from a virgin site and move on. Bottom line: as an SEO, you've got to distance yourself from other fellow SEOs in your link building.

Hey Greg…mind if I put a condom on your link to your blog there…hehe, just kidding (and thanks for the $20)…hehe…again, just kidding (maybe…heheheh).
Seriously though, I don’t think condoms are mine or your responsibilities. If I slip you some juice for whatever reason, that’s between you and I, I don’t need no condom police interfeering with our fun (ok…now it’s getting a bit sick here).
Again, Thanks for the $ … or did I link to you because I like you, or was it just plain darn relevant to this page…matt will never know…or will he?

Jim, keep the pizza exchange theory “under the radar”.

Jason,
Yea…I’m pretty open on my blog, but I still do keep some secrets I won’t tell people about the Pizza idea…if you send me a few links…hehe
Greg, you owe me double now for that trackback link there

Wasn’t Matt in the NSA or a contactor with them?

Matt was a high level government employee with very high security clearence. While working for the government there’s been rumors that they implanted a computer chip in his head. this computer chip both sends all of matts thoughts to a high level secret government agency, as well as this secret high level government agency sends matt thoughts that he thinks are his own. It’s a huge conspiracy that I’m suprised has never been brought more into the public eyes. Matt Knows All, and so does the government. Matt is really the start of how computers, through the US government and through Google, are going to take over the world.
Man, this acid is really good.

That acid looks good for content creation!

Is LSD “latent semantic discovery” ?

Lsd sounds almost as dangerous as me running around with barely a clue to how or what all this blog stuff is. I will say this though. It never gets boring. I enjoy reading this stuff and hopefully by next week some of it will have sunk in.

Thank you for your 2 cents, its nice to read an SEO’s honest opinion
