Non SEO: Living Wills
Last night, my wife and I were sitting in the living room talking about many things. The idea of a Living Will came up and I said to her, "I never want to live in a vegetative state, dependent on a machine and fluids from a bottle. If I ever come to that just pull the plug."
She got up…
Unplugged my computer and then threw out my beer.

Not trying to get too serious here, but my wife and I had a discussion about an actual will the other day and came to the conclusion the kid would blow thru the money like a drunken monkey so we’re talking about setting up a trust fund to pay her monthly until it’s empty so she won’t go hog wild and end up broke.
BTW, I’m putting a stipulation in that if the cat survives us, and nobody takes care of the cat, then nobody gets a nickle

On the serious side though….if you’re wondering the things you should think about if you were hit by a bus tomorrow then there’s a good post in WW about that here.

You think being 21 saves your butt?
A girl I went to school with died of a brain tumor before she was 18, my ex-wife dropped at 40 last year when her aorta ripped, and I’m sure there were a lot of fairly young people in the WTC on 9/11.
You might step off a curb and get splattered by a car with failing breaks trying to stop as you boldly assume pedestrians have the right of way strutting across the steet as you never know when your time is up.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot, a friend of mine fell while skating backwards and got a massive concussion in the mid-80s. He had some serious brain trauma, doctor told him to take it easy a couple of months, take some blood thinner pills and avoid mountains and airplanes.
Idiot flew somewhere and apparently had a blood vessel in his head burst as he landed on the return trip. Went home complaining of a severe headache and went to take a nap. Turned out to be a permanent nap as he never woke up again.
21… MUAHAHAHAHAHA on you.

Bill, I think Eric actually means that, being only 21, he has no assets to worry about should he trip in traffic tomorrow, and no one depending on him to need to look after.

Not sure why he thinks thats a good thing, though!

No assets at 21?
How can that be?
Oh well, the slacker youth of today…

Living wills are great but consider this Jim. I lived in a vegetative state for almost two years at Albany med and came out of it. After three years of rehab I ended up on wheels but live a good and productive life. It makes you wonder how many people with living wills could have done the same or much better then me.

Great point Bruce….definately something to think about.

Its a ‘use your judgement, dear’ situation.
We can only make decisions based on what we know at the time.
The important lesson from the thinking is for our dearly beloved to know that we have said that pulling the plug in those circumstances is OK.
So they can go on with their life afterwards with less guilt.
IMHO

A slacker? Please let me enlighten everyone
I run a very succesful web consultancy firm in Asheville, North Carolina, make much more than my mother and father (who are both white collar) and I am a full time college student (senior at UNCA).
I do have some assets, but like a smart entrepenuer, I keep a lot of my overhead low (most assets are liquid rather than hard). I could go on and on, but my point is that I am not a slacker!
BTW: being 21 is great, you do not fear death! muahaha

Eric, if you have no fear of death you aren’t doing it right.

On the more serious side as well…..we just did our wills (including a living), and now that now how this works after I’m a stiff, I’m glad we got it done.
Yeah….my wife gets chocked when I’m working too much on my blogs as well.
