1. What is Google Search Engine Optimization?
When a
user types in a search phrase into Google, and gets back results,
those results are made up of several complex formulas. When
Google "Ranks" sites, it is really just performing Mathematical
Formulas. There is no human involved in the process of
evaluating any individual site - it is Math formulas computed from
the information that Google
Bot gathers from your site.
Google sends several Search Engine Spiders (computers) out to
update pages it knows of, and to seek new pages that it finds
through links. The name given to all the Google Search Engine
Spiders is Google Bot.
Google Bot takes a "snapshot" of your web pages.
The best way to analyze what Google Bot sees is to combine two
items.
- View the source code. Go to any web page, put your
mouse over a blank spot on the page, and right click your
mouse. This will bring up a menu. Choose "view
source".
- The second way that Google views your webs site can be found
by using this tool.
That site also has instructions on how to get your main text to
show up first, (as opposed to your navigation bar menu).
Another useful tool for analyzing how Search Engines such as
Google view your site can be done by using this tool. - Another Google Optimization Tool.
Here you will want to enter in your URL and then
click on the links as shown below.
Google Bot can not view pictures. Google Bot can not see
if the site is "Pretty" or "not". It also doesn't read Meta
Tags the way that the older search engines once did.. Meta Tags
are not bad, but they are mostly a thing of the past.
For an example of Google Search Engine Optimization, go to Google and type in
any search phrase. Google will go through the list of sites that
are in its database and look for those pages that mention your
words at least once. On the Google results page all of
these sites will be the X number in the "Results 1 - 10 of about X
NUMBER". You must mention the terms and phrases
that you want to get found within your page's text. In other
words, if you are marketing a phrase, then that phrase had better
be mentioned at least once on the page to have a
chance of showing up in the results.
Here is a good tool to analyze your Keyword
Density.
Good Google Search Engine Optimization looks at over 100 items,
but here are some of the major items that Google analyses on web
pages:
Google runs a mathematical formula called an algorithm on your
page . The better the algorithm, the more
"optimized" it is said to be.
The Google Search Engine puts A LOT of weight on the text that
is found in the TITLE tag. Most search results will show pages
that have the searched words in the title tag.
The HTML Code should start like this:
<html>
<head>
<title>4-10 Words to describe what
is on the page</title>
A common mistake of many web sites is that
they have the same title tag on every page
of their web site. Each page should
have different title tags, depending on
what that specific page has information
on.
Also good Google Search Engine Optimization
will have the targeted keyword phrases at
the beginning of the page since the text
at the beginning of the page has more relevance
than the text on the rest of the page.
This means that your first few sentences
on the page should mention your targeted
keyword phrases.
Good Google Search Engine Optimization
also tends to have a "fair" amount of words
on each page.
Google also likes keywords to be in the
Headings Tag. Heading Tags range in size
from 1-6. The HTML for a heading tag
is <h4>Google Search Engine Optimization</h4>,
An H4 is below:
Google Search Engine Optimization
You'll want to have some heading tags on
the page, with your keywords located in
them.
Google also likes it if you have text links
on the page that include your keyword phrases.
If you have a navigation bar that is pictures
(and not text) then you will want to also
add some text links on the pages that link
to your "important" pages, and it's better
optimization if you have those links be
the keywords that describe that page.
For example, if I were looking to optimize
a link I might link to a page in the following
manner:
Google
Submission ~ Google
Directory ~ Google
Back Links
Google
PageRank ~ Google
Dance
A very small factor, that can help is the
use of "ALT" tags. These are the tags
that a designer will put around a picture.
You can view these tags by hovering your
mouse over a picture, and then keeping your
mouse still, and you will see the text for
the ALT tag. For example:

The ALT tags hear read "Sergey
Brin and Lawrence Page the co-founders of
Google at the first ever Google Dance. They
created Google Search Engine Optimization
by starting Google."
Another item that you will want
to check is the HTML. Errors in your
code can create problems with Search Engine
Spiders. It's easy check, just type
in each page in the space below to see if
there are any code errors!

Even the best optimized text pages need the other factors
listed below in order to score high for relevant phrases.
Once things like PageRank
increase, your "text optimization" is less important. You
should still include the keyword phrases that are relevant to your
page, and still have good relevant text.
