Email Bots that Stroke your Ego and get you Reading.

Wednesday, May 30th, 2007

I just got a piece of spam that might have suckered me…if they hadn’t made 1 mistake…

Here’s the introduction and first paragraph of the email:

Subject line: Thanks for your blog at JimBoykin.com

Hey mr Boykin,

First thanks for your site which I frequently visit, at {url}. Your articles, stories and tips have helped me a lot, which has resulted in more profits at the bottom line. So an incredible thanks for you great site, keep up the good work!

the introduction of "Hey mr Boykin" had me thinking it might be a typo by a human…

Notice the "{url}"…..I didn’t edit that…that’s how it came….if only they had entered in www.jimboykin.com instead of "{url}" they might have suckered me into reading whatever he was writing below that first paragraph. Kinda nice "sucker" email to send to thousands of bloggers…hey, what blogger doesn’t enjoy reading things like that??, which then leads them to see what else this person is saying…..I’ll never know what he was going to push on me because I never got past the first paragraph.

Hey, Humans do it better.

Updated: Jim Boykin: Deja Vu plus Swag and $720 in free ads.

Monday, May 28th, 2007

Today I updated my "Jim’s Favorite Posts" section that I put in the footers of all my blog pages. I hadn’t updated it since Dec 13th 2006 so I added:

I know most people might just read these posts when they first come out…but some of these have since also had some nice "gems" added the comments (thank you all for your input and ideas!). Feel free to join any of these conversations.

Long ago I set it up this blog so that if a post was over 30 days, it would stop the ability for someone to make a comment….I’ve opened comments up on all of my favorite posts on the bottom…..Spammers shouldn’t stop nice conversations (I’ll control), and time can change things. (conversations shouldn’t "end".)

On the Road Again…San Fran, Texas, N.Carolina, Seattle, etc!

Sunday, May 6th, 2007

Just a heads up that I’ll be traveling a lot the next 4 weeks, and might not be posting much.

This coming week I’ll be in San Francisco (Give me a shout if you’re near San Fran), next week I’ll be in Austin and Dallas Texas (every moment booked there), The following week I’ll be in North Carolina, then I’ve a few days off, then it’s off to Seattle for SMX where I’ll be on the "Better Ways" panel with some friends.

Oh, and we did a new webuildpages theme song, I’ll try to release this week too…busy busy…but ya know, it sure is fun! When I’m an old man sitting in my rocker I’ll miss these days…..

Are you going to the SMX Seattle Conference?
