Cat Post - Enjoy some Old Time Radio - MP3

Tuesday, January 31st, 2006

I like old time radio - those old radio shows from the 1930’s -1950’s. In the days before the internet, in the day’s before TV’s….in the days where families would gather around their radio’s and listen to shows like: Suspense, My Favorite Husband, Black Museum, Lone Ranger, Lux Radio Theater, Boston Blackie, Jack Benny, Green Hornet, Burns and Allen, Amos & Andy, The Whistler, Abbott & Costello, Great Gildersleeve, Sherlock Holmes, Dr Who, Dick Tracy, Groucho Marx, etc, etc.

When TV came along in the 1950’s most of these radio shows died off.

Each day I get to listen to a show on my drive to work, and one on the way home. I’ve got a crazy collection of about 50,000 shows (42,000 from here alone). I will never be able to listen to them all in my lifetime.

I thought I’d give a link to a show for any of you who’d like to jump back in time. This particular show was recorded in 1950, but it takes place in the future world of 1987, where they travel back in time to the 1920’s (follow that?) This one is from the show "Dimension X" from July 7th 1950 called "Mars is Heaven"(mp3).

It’s 30 minutes in length. Depending on any feedback, I might post some more some day. FYI, most of these shows were never copyrighted, and those that were, the copyright has expired on most.

Have a Sports Related Website?

Tuesday, January 31st, 2006

I’ve got some advertising space on a sports related website that I can sell.

About this website:
This site had over 2 million page views in Jan 2006.
This site has over 15,000 all natural backlinks (yahoo linkdomain)
The site also has over 400 backlinks that are .edu and .gov.
What this means is that it’s a trusted website with quality traffic.

What I’m selling:
Whole information pages with some links going out.

How this works:
You’ll need to write 300-600 words (or have us write it for $50)
The content on this page must be informative, and must "add quality" to the site. I can not stress eneough that your article must be of quality information.

Links:
You can put in up to 4 links going to your sports related site.
You can also put in a few other links going to authority webpages on the topic of your article.
If you request, I’ll wrap a condom around your links.

The homepage will not link to your article, but your article will be well linked within the site. Your page will have over 2000 internal webpages linking to your page.

What this means as that your traffic should be pretty good from this page. This page may rank high, and if you’ve got a good article with quality links in it, you should get some good traffic to your site.

Cost:
$100 per month. I would hope that click throughs from this page to your site would be worth this price. If you don’t think the click throughs will be worth it, don’t purchase this.

What’s the URL of this site I’m selling this informative advertising on?
I’m not telling you until I’ve approved your url and your article has been approved, and payment has been sent in.

Interested?
Contact me at my name at webuildpages.com. Tell my your sports related URL and I’ll let you know if it qualifies.

Mike Grehan - Drink from his knowledge.

Tuesday, January 31st, 2006

Mike Grehan interviewed on SEO Buzzbox.

Aaron Pratt has racked up another great interview, this time with Mike Grehan. Of all the people I know in the SEO industry, Mike might be the person I respect the most. When I have "advanced" SEO questions I’ll write them down and pull them out at the next conference when I see Mike. Mike’s an amazing speaker, writer, and thinker. If you only read 2 book about this industry, I’d recommend Aaron Wall’s SEO Book, and Mike’s The essential best practice guide. If you’re an SEO, Read his book.

Here’s some more of Mike info that every SEO should read:

so where was I….oh yea, Mike’s interview.  Here’s my favorite quote from Mike:

Like any other business, your presence should have a natural growth curve. Search engines have enough data about communities online to spot spikes in them. I just never really understand the lengths that people go to get as many links as they can as quickly as they can, when working on how to get two or three great authority links is much more beneficial in the long term.

Internet Marketing Firms M&A 2006

Monday, January 30th, 2006

I Just read an article on MarketingVox called "Strong Internet Marketing M&A Forecast for 2006" which was based on a recent survey (pdf) , done by investment bank AdMedia Partners, called "Merger and Acquisition Prospects for Marketing Services and Internet Marketing Firms (pdf)".

The survey has all sorts of graphs, tables and number charts in it, but my favorite part is the comments from some of the respondents:

“Big agencies are under tremendous client pressure to get ‘smart’ about new and online media – they will buy the intelligence.”

"Consulting and SEO income opportunities are abounding.” A second advised, “Focus on the Internet. Hard dollars are showing up there. Product placement, branded content, creating co-owned ideas that generate revenues, vehicles that will continue to pay dividends.”

“I expect the long overdue acquisitions of online agencies by large traditional agencies will accelerate. Large traditional shops will need to bite the bullet on valuations, but probably won’t regret it.”

"I believe the industry as a whole is under-valued, especially small-medium sized companies with a proven track record and unharnessed potential given necessary access to market and working capital.”

A lot of this makes sense…especially that last quote. I could say more….but I won’t right now.

When SEO’s Attack.

Monday, January 30th, 2006

When SEO’s Attack! SEO’s fighting each other - WHY?

Does every group need some people to kick so that the others feel better about themselves?  I think that sometimes in our world of blogs and forums that tones can be mistaken, and words are easily misinterpreted.

I know there’s some SEO’s who hate me - there’s some SEO’s who I’m not too found of as well….but I really try not say things like "SEO Bob is an ass" (no offense if there is an SEO Bob out there) in a public forum.

Sure, I’ve felt I’ve been "attacked" before - who hasn’t? And sure, I’ve had the occasion to have to jump into a forum to try to defend my name or my company….but luckily it’s been a long time since I’ve had to do that.

When attacked…well, sometimes I’ve jumped in…and sometimes I’ve ignored it. Over the years I’ve seen my share of SEO’s kicking at other SEO’s….

What’s the correct form if you feel you’re being "attacked"? Is it best to ignor, or to attack back?

Advice: before you attack, or before you attack back, call up that person and have a chat. Getting involved in a public bitch fest isn’t good for anyone involved, and most of the time, it all comes from a misunderstanding.

Why must SEO’s attack each other? Can’t we all just bitch at Google? (but Matt does a great job of making even that hard to do).

Monday morning SEO reads, and LinkedIn.

Monday, January 30th, 2006

Just wanted to touch on a few things going on this Monday morning.

This weekend I had 3 people ask me to join their LinkedIn network…kinda strange as no one has asked me in 3 months, and then 3 requests over the weekend…must be making some type of SEO rounds. I’ve got 19 contacts…nothing big…but if you’re interested in being in my network, my email is my first name at mycompany.com.

Ask internet marketing test.
